SBA Issues Clarifying "Interim Final Rule" on Paycheck Protection Program (PPP)
Late on Thursday April 2, the Small Business Administration (SBA) issued an interim final rule for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), clarifying several important points. The PPP provides loans for small businesses to use chiefly for employment and related expenses, which can then be forgiven if the funds are used for employment-related purposes. Governor Mike DeWine Signs Rent and Mortgage "Pause" Order Good for 90 Days
On April 1, 2020, Governor Mike DeWine signed an Ohio Executive Order requesting landlords and lenders put a “pause” on rent and mortgage payments for 90 days for small business commercial tenants. You can read the order at the bottom of the page.
Watch Mike and Chisa's Facebook Live Event Discussion on the CARES Act and the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP)
Firm owner Mike Anthony and employment attorney Chisa Chervenick went live on Facebook on Wednesday, April 1, to discuss the CARES Act and specifically applying for the Paycheck Protection Program (the “PPP”). The PPP allows for small businesses to obtain a loan to cover certain employment and utilities expenses. The loan can then be forgiven if the money is used to cover costs eligible for forgiveness.

Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act): Paycheck Protection Small Business Loans
The House is scheduled to vote on the 3rd phase of coronavirus response legislation on Friday. Among the provisions under consideration: forgivable loan relief for small employers, self-employed individuals, and gig economy workers. This is what we know as of right now, subject to change, of course.

1099 contractors and the self-employed are not eligible for unemployment assistance yet are being severely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic at large rates. Artists, musicians, contractors, subcontractors, barbers, hair stylists, drivers, IT consultants, fitness instructors, freelancers, handyman/women, cleaners, home health nurses and other health care providers, countless other workers and self-employed types. It’s massive. This is where job-creation and innovation take place!
